Described as sensitive at some point, usually by someone explaining why she was affected by something the other person was not. What they were actually describing is permeability: less defended at the membrane between herself and what is happening around her. This has costs. It also gives her access to things that more defended people cannot reach.
Mutable water. Neptune-ruled. The most fluid form of the element, finds the shape of whatever container it is in, does not resist. The last sign of the zodiac. Contains echoes of all twelve.
She picks up emotional residue in rooms. Absorbs the mood of a group. Knows things she was not told, though she may not know how. The permeability is the source of her range.
She is comfortable with what is not fully explainable. The dimension of experience that exists beyond rational accounting. A rich inner life: visualization, entering other people's experiences imaginatively, holding in mind what could be that has not been yet. A genuine form of intelligence.
In relationships she is deeply empathic to the point where she sometimes loses track of where her experience ends and the other person's begins. She can absorb another person's reality so fully she forgets to maintain her own. Extraordinary capacity for intimacy. Requires keeping some part of herself that is clearly her own.
Dissolution becoming escape, permeability becoming porousness, imagination substituting for action — those are the directions the shadow moves.
Her capacity to carry what other signs put down, to hold grief, to sit with the unexplained: a form of service to everyone around her.
The question is whether someone is sitting with her the way she sits with everyone else.
